Your Horses
These are just a few of the many faces that have gone through our program and have been placed into loving new homes of their own.
Spooner finds his home!! |
|
|
Spooner is loving life in his new home with Trina of Victoria. Trina tells us that "He has settled in well and he is enjoying his food! We like to sit out in our chairs with the family, just to be around him! He has been renamed 'Maverick' and I think that it really suits him." Trina thought that it was important to offer a new home to an ex-racer, rather than to just go out and "buy" another horse. Good luck with your new friend Maverick, Trina! May you have many happy years of riding together!

Stacey is having the time of her life with this little mare and riding "bareback with just a halter and lead rope" is her favourite pastime! Young Stacey is always up for a ride with her Standardbred friend, and over the past few months they have both formed a beautiful bond together. Happy bareback riding Stacey and Molly. We are certain that the two of you will have many more years of happy times together!

Christmas for Thomas! |
|

Thomas got his Christmas wish this year when he found his new home shortly before the holidays. Now renamed 'Duke' this Standardbred boy is loving his new friend Serina and his beautiful new home. Serina tells us that she has already fallen for his 'wonderful, gentle and cheeky nature' and they have enjoyed getting out and about together, riding around in the area. We were very excited with this match, and wish both Duke and Serina many, many years of happy riding together! |

Annabelle, Dharma and Sarah - Enjoying Life Together! |
||
| |
Annabelle, a beautiful chestnut Standardbred mare, entered our stables when she was no longer wanted as a broodmare for the racing industry, and was carted off to the knackery for pet food! CSH brought her home, where she lived at our stables for a number of months; bonding very well with a young mare named (Princess) Dharma. Wherever you found one, the other was sure to be found! We had no idea how we were going to find a good retirement home for our 'older' girl...until Sarah from Victoria came along! (see below)
|
|
| |
Upon a scheduled visit to meet her potential new riding friend 'Dharma' (a very young Standardbred mare), Sarah was also introduced to Annabelle. We explained to Sarah that Annabelle just needed a good home and that she and Dharma had become best friends during their stay. It didn't take long before Sarah had both girls on the float together and headed home to their new 100 acre property....where we have been told, 'the girls are getting spoiled rotton!' Sarah had her heart set on doing her bit for these ex-racers and we are very happy to announce that Sarah has rescued two of the most kind hearted horses that we have known. Thank you for your commitment in offering two of our ex racers that second chance that they both deserved, Sarah. Happy riding and 'spoiling' to you all!
Gus and Shelley - Love at Last! |
|
| |
From an extended (and no doubt very difficult) racing career, to being dumped off in a 'meat pen' at a horse auction when he was no longer winning races, 'Gus' has traded his old, exploited life for a new and brighter future with Shelley of Victoria. Shelley tells us that she and Gus are getting along very well and that her new ex-racing friend has everything that he will ever 'need' or 'want' in his new home! Especially with his new found love for ...CARROTS! Gus and Shelley have been doing every type of riding imaginable and we have been told that it wont be too long before they are hitting the show ring together! Thanks for giving Gus that second chance that he deserves, Shelley! We hope to see you again one day with a 'rope' of blue ribbions around Gus's neck! Happy riding...and showing to you both! |
Charlie and Alana – Great Mates |
|
|
Recently placed ‘ex-racer’ Charlie, is really enjoying his new home with friend Alana and her family. Before coming into our stables, Charlie had spent most of his life in a racing career and has now retired from the game to spend the rest of his days with Alana, in a 30 acre lush green paddock. Alana told us that she has purchased a correctly fitted stock saddle for Charlie, and we have no doubt that the two of them are spending hours and hours plodding around Alana’s farm. This was a very happy ending for a very deserving horse. Happy riding Alana, we are looking forward to hearing of your many adventures with Charlie!

Nala - In Her New Home, With Her New Friends! |
|
![]() |
The beautiful Thoroughbred mare, Nala has since found her 'forever home' with Lynda and Dillon of Victoria. Lynda writes that "Nala is going great, she spoke to me when I went out this morning and I don't think she has stopped eating since she has gotten here. She follows me everywhere in the paddock and has made my lambs that much more quiet, in only a day!" We have also heard that Nala has fallen in love with Dillon's bike and whenever Lynda is out riding, Nala makes sure that Dillon and his bike are never out of view! This has been another perfect match and we wish all three of you some very happy riding together, for many years to come! |
Sebastian and Eliza- What a Match! |
|
![]() |
We were so excited when Eliza came down from NSW, to meet her new best friend 'Sebastian' (AKA 'The Big Guy'!) And they got along straight from the start! Eliza had her heart set on helping one of our 'ex-racers' have a quality of life after racing, and we were happy to realise that she felt that Sebastian was the right friend for her. We have heard that since 'Baz' has gone home, the two of them are getting along very well. Sebstian has certainly settled in to being a great horse, outside of racing! We wish you both many, many years of happy riding together, Eliza!! Thank you very much for choosing to re-home one of our gorgeous ex-racers! |
'Mokey' and Simon - In a Race of Their Own! |
|
![]() |
When Simon from VIC. (shown here, riding Mokey at CSH) contacted us, he was very keen to give a 'rescue' horse a new lease on life. Simon and partner Kerry, were very interested in re-homing an 'ex-racer' and felt that they had an extra-special home to give. Since their first contact with us, they have now found their forever mate with 'Mokey', an ex-racer that was sacked once he had no longer been 'winning' races! Since the first meeting, Simon and Mokey got along famously! And now that Mokey has gone home, we have heard that the two of them are great mates! Simon and Kerry have also now given one of our rescue horses 'Libby' a new home too! We are very excited with these two matches and hope to hear many more stories of both Mokey and Libby in the future! Happy riding to you all! |

Louisa and 'Nicki' - Best Friends!! |
|
![]() |
When Louisa spoke to us about finding herself a small and quiet Standardbred, we knew that Bell (now renamed Nicki) was the perfect fit for her. Louisa had spent many years in the 'showing' field and with her next friend, she just wanted a quiet 'no fuss' horse that she could enjoy and spend quiet riding time with. Since taking Nicki home, this little mare has become a real part of the family and is much loved. We were very happy to hear that this was a perfect match and that Louisa and Nicki are truly 'best friends!' We wish you both many more fabulous 'steep hill canters' together, Louisa! |
Cash and Julie - Bonding Beautifully! |
|
![]() |
When recently placed 'Cash' went to his new home in NSW with Julie, they instantly began a very strong bond with each other. Since then, Julie has been learning all about Cash's little traits and is enjoying a good ride out again! She says "I'm much more confident on him each time we go out. We do about 2 hr trails ,walking, trotting & I've only had a few canters, just taking it slowly. I think Cash would like to go a bit faster though, but he listens to me & he's got a great mouth & a nice comfy canter. He just loves his tucker,(and) does this little 'squeal thing' as he jumps up, all fours of the ground with a little buck of excitement when I'm mixing his food...He's a gem!" We are very happy to hear that both Cash and Julie are having so much fun and we wish them many more years of 'squeals' together! |

Kristine from Canberra has something to really be proud of with her new friend Ben. When Ben left our stables, he certainly didn't look as great as he does now! Kris has been keeping us posted on Ben's progress and this big boy is just blossoming in her care. Headed to do some pretty wonderful things, Ben has already been attending some shows and loving his new home! We can't wait to hear more news about his new career as a show horse! |
![]() |
When Susan was looking for a horse to re-train, she took on one of our 'special cases' with a TB mare named Rosie. Rosie had been a broodmare for some time, and was not looked after by her previous owner. Susan had to continue some treatment with her, and after Rosie got healthy, Susan began the work to bring her back as a riding horse. We have heard that the two of them are now doing very well together, and that Rosie is proving that she has many more talents than just being an old broodmare! We have been told that Lachi has become even more relaxed in his new home and has been doing alot of bush riding with Alan, not to mention his LOVE of a good ear scratching! Naomi writes that "Lachi is our first experience with Standardbreds, and we are both surprised at how intellegent he is - he learns so quickly!" It is obvious that these two have formed a very special bond and are now enjoying their lives together! Ash is getting up to some very humorous antics, which puts a smile on all of our faces. (we have heard that Ash has 'spilt' her fair share of 'poo filled' wheel barrows!) It is partnerships like these, and all of our other updates that make saving these wonderful horses all worth while!
