Manny- from an underweight Thoroughbred 'give-away' to superstar status |
| Two years ago we heard that a man near us had a TB mare for sale. After approaching this man we went to see the mare, and decided to buy her. On the day we went to pick her up, the man told us to also take the chestnut gelding, as he couldn't afford to feed him either. Sadly, 8 months after buying the mare, she passed away. This of course meant that our freebie, - an ugly duckling to all who saw him - became my daughter, Amelia's new project'. | |
Manny was seriously underweight when we got him, and we brought him home to work with him. He was 5 then, and was still only just growing into himself, as it seems he was a very late developer - all 16.2hh of him. We found that we had gotten ourselves rather a handful - in his time with us he reared, (completely over twice), kicked, bitten, struck and bucked! For all of this my daughter loved him from the start - and she constantly reminded him that I am his superannuation fund, and that he needed to make a lot more deposits (of good behaviour) before he depleted the fund (and my patience) entirely. |
Amelia's calm, no fuss, but strict attitude has worked a miracle. Today, 12 months after starting, Manny is out in the paddock for a month's break before he takes on his new career as an eventer. He has had one start - at Grade 4 PC level, where he came 16th out of 25th, and we consider he was a super star! The travelling (5 hours each way), the new places, the 160 other horses and riders he took in his stride - and such big strides it has been since Amelia first rode him, when I was almost too afraid to watch. I could natter on for hours about this lovely big baby, but I can best sum him up with Amelia's description of him:- he came to us as an ugly duckling, turned into a goose, and is now working on swan! |

Miss Muffet Gets a Loving New Home of Her Own! |
Remember Miss Muffet? This girl was part of a CSH team rescue that included saving over 10 horses from a very certain death. All of the horses involved had been grossly neglected and to the point where they were starving to death! They were literally skin and bone, and Miss Muffet was no exception. We posted a photo of her on our site, and had many enquiries from people out there who were concerned for her welfare. |

After 12 days here with us at CSH, and a host of treatments for her ailments, Miss Muffet was looking for someone to continue on with her rehabilitation. That's when we heard from a very special person from Victoria! Susan was looking for a horsey companion and after reading about this poor mare's plight, offered to take Miss Muffet home with her. |

Aisha (Miss Muffet) - Getting to Know Her New Home |
| Miss Muffet soon under-went a total identity change! Susan gave her a much needed bath, renamed her and introduced her to a lovely new green paddock. 'Aisha', as she is now known, even appeared to have changed colour in her new surroundings! This little girl was getting a good feed, was more relaxed and was finally free from her horrific past. Susan was an angel! | |
Aisha is Feeling Much Better Now! |
| What a beautiful ending for such a beautiful soul! Aisha will now live out her days, knowing full well that Susan will always be there to feed and love her! This girl is now fat and happy, and we at CSH wish them both a very long and happy lifetime together! | |
From Racehorse to Show Horse, 'Gate' has Proven to Stacey That He Can Do Just About Anything!! |
Hi, well I thought that I would write and tell you about a wonderful story of a young lass and her Standardbred called 'Golden Gate' (Gate) or (Gator). Stacey was given this horse several years ago, he is her first and only horse. This partnership of horse and rider is amazing. This young lass is a fantastic horserider that will have 'a go' at anything and so does her beloved Gate, as he trusts her with his life. This horse (in his racing days) won numerous races and his owners then loved him dearly and still do. He was sent to Perth to continue his racing career, but after a period of time the owners had heard how bad he looked and how he had lost so much weight that they bought him back to Victoria. The owners then decided to retire him from racing and that's when Stacey brought him home. He may have retired from racing, but he has done everything else from rounding up cattle, winning jumping events and novelty events at the local PC gymkhanas, the Barmah Forest Trail Ride 2005, and in October 2005 she entered Gate and herself in the first Mildura show. On the Friday she entered him in the jumping events against seasoned jumpers - they didnt do very well, but on Saturday they went in just about every novelty event going from the barrel race, the flag race, to the Old English Plates; and then with about half an hour break under lights she competed in the six bar jumping event. Stacey and her beloved Gate did not win but they did win the hearts of all that were watching. |

Stacey and Gate proved they are a very powerful combination, and there were not too many onlookers that night that did not have a lump in their throats. It was magical! The cheer squad was exhausted!! Attached (above) you will find a photo of Gate and Stacy at last years Mildura Show. Gate's previous owners have recently completed a housing subdivision and called it none other than 'Golden Gate'. This horse Gate is Sunraysia's (Mildura) Super Horse. From, Jane......The Standardbreds are wonderful!! |
Jazz is shown just 3 days after being purchased at a horse auction |
![]() |
I purchased 'Jazz' (a Standardbred Gelding) from the Camden horse auction when he was about 18 months old. He was on his way to the 'doggers'as so many of these wonderful Standardbreds are! He was a young boy, still a baby, and only about 14hh at the time. Later by tracing his brand, I found out that he had only ever been taught to lead and tie up. However the day I brought him home, he was very co-operative in every way, even with floating. And he really wasn't even that trusting with people at that point!
Jazz - At just 6 weeks after being in his new home! |

Jazz has the sweetest and most gentle nature. (Very standard for this breed!) Since bringing him home, he has grown and grown and grown until he has reached 17.3hh plus! He is a naturally 'fat' horse, so it makes us all wonder why he was in such a poor condition when we first brought him home.
Jazz....... What a beautiful boy! |
Jazz has naturally 'floating' movement and is extremely comfortable to ride, just like a lounge chair. He jumps really well and is very responsive to aids in dressage. He is also a very calm horse, even when he is checking out something 'suss.' You will see all of the beautiful changes in him, by the photos as they go along. Jazz is now 5 years old and living wonderful and happy life!

I have written to you regarding purchasing a horse for myself in the past and just wanted to share my story with you. I was inspired by what you do at CSH so much that I went and bought myself a TB mare that was in desperate need of some TLC. She was advertised for sale and when I went to look at her, I knew that I wasn't coming home without her. Not because she was the perfect horse for me, but because she was so skinny! (I know that this may be a bad way to buy a horse, but I didn't even care if I could ride her, I was just content saving her!) She is a 16hh mare and 11 years old. I took her home, wormed her, had the vet out and now she looks so much better. I have only had her 8 weeks now and she is just adorable. She does not have any vices that I can find, and she is very easy to educate. She also has my beginner husband riding her around! I only bought her on the 24th of September 2005. Massive improvement as you can see in just under 2 months! |
