Meet 'Baz' (aka the Big Guy!) in His New Home With Eliza in NSW

Sebastian's first ride with Eliza

"When I made the decision to buy another horse I went through the usual ordeal of looking at advertisements, driving for hours to see the horse, inevitably being disappointed then doing it all again the following weekend.  When I finally stumbled across the Cedar Springs Horses Inc. website I really felt that it was meant to be. After looking through all the wonderful success stories about rescued ex-racers, I decided that there was no other place I wanted to get a horse from, and several emails and phone calls later I was on the road to Whittlesea to look at Sebastian for the first time. Arriving at Cedar Springs on that bitingly cold and windy day will always be a special memory for me as that was the day I met my brand new baby Sebastian."

Baz Settles Into His New Home

"After the long trip to his new home in NSW, I was greeted by a massive neigh!  We took him down to the yards so I could groom, feed and rug him before he got all caught up in the excitement of meeting his new mates. And then he was introduced to his new friend Akula which went very smoothly.

Baz was very calm throughout this whole procedure and didn’t fizz up when we led him into his paddock, which was saying something as the other horses were putting on a real performance in true Thoroughbred style!  They all raced around like crazy for a bit (the Thoroughbreds galloping and Baz executing the most massive trot I have ever seen!) but then they all settled down and each time I checked on Baz he had his head down eating madly."

"Since bringing Baz home, he has blossomed into a beautiful, big boy.  His coat has taken on a rich glossy colour, he’s fitter (and cheekier – he sometimes isn’t too keen on being caught), he’s really grown (up two rug sizes), and is gradually putting on more weight and muscle tone."

"We recently spent a long weekend riding with a group of friends on a property bordered by national park near Corryong, Victoria.

Baz was fantastic on the trails which are often very steep and precarious.  He’s calm and collected under pressure and doesn’t 'fiz up' when put into a scary situation."

"Seeing Baz cavorting around in the paddock with his buddies and having a good roll in the sun has to be one of the loveliest sights a horse owner can have.  It makes me so sad to think of what his fate would have been had he not met the team from Cedar Springs.  I’m just thrilled to have him in my life, and I look forward to watching him develop and mature as the years go on."

Eliza (Baz's Mum) - NSW

Note: Baz was rescued from a knackery truck, and without people like Eliza to offer him a new home, his fate would have been sealed.

What a happy ending for such a beautiful ex-race horse! Well done, Eliza!
